In the clips a variety of things will happen that symbolise different areas. For example, in Dexter there's several things that symbolise death and killing:
- Blood: from cutting himself when shaving - Shirt over his face - indicates suffocating - Meat could relate to flesh - A blood orange coul indiciates flesh or guts - Rope/string, laces and floss shows materials you could use to kill someone. saw styleThe style Saw is very heavy stylised, it uses quick cuts and fast paced editing. This is used to emphasise tension and create suspense and to make the audience feel insecure and on edge. Here is an extract from Saw:

In a movie it has a storyline with people talking.
Linear narrative has shots to tell a story with narrative continuity, helping the viewer make sense of the action by implying spatial relationships and ensuring smooth flow from shot to shot. The editing is invisible so action appears real rather than constructed. Non-Linear narrative is like a montage - giving information in compressed form. The continuity is broken and construction is more appeared. Here is Insidious, a non-linear opening title sequence: |
